What are lash extensions?
Not to be confused with strip lashes or individual clusters of lashes knotted together that are a single-event accessory, these semi-permanent, synthetic extensions are glued one by one onto the natural lash (not the skin) using a specially formulated glue that lasts 2-4 weeks.
Should I be careful who applies lash extensions and should they be trained?
Absolutely, we cannot stress the importance of choosing a lash technician who has recieved appropriate training, and has a LOT of experience. There are many lash extension operators who are claiming to have been professionally trained but have been self taught via the internet or lash extension kit DVD! Please do your research thoroughly, ask many questions and ask to see photos of their work.
How are lash extensions applied?
A single natural lash is isolated, and a single lash extension is glued approximately 1mm from the eyelid so neither the glue or the lash has contact with the skin.
How long does the application take?
The procedure will take approximately 1 hour and 30 mins for a full set, and approximately 1 hour for a refill. It is a meticulous procedure that requires patience and concentration. Therefore, it cannot be rushed so that clients can leave with a perfect set of lashes. You relax with your eyes closed and there is no pain as this is a non-invasive procedure. Often clients are so relaxed they fall asleep.
Will lash extensions damage my own lashes?
At Allure Lash and Beauty Bar, we are certified Damage-Free. Many of our clients have been with for years and have constantly had extensions applied with no break and have no natural lash damage. It is important to have your lash extensions applied by a qualified operator who uses top quality products.
Can I still wear eye makeup?
Yes, but you won’t need mascara and you may even find you won’t need eyeliner. You can still use eyeliner and eye shadow as usual, but remember to remove with an oil-free makeup remover (see our range in salon). We recommend removing eyeliner by using a cotton bud and a small amount of eye makeup remover, and gently running it along the lash line. Gently remove eye shadow in a side and upward movement - wiping down towards the lashes will cause a build up of makeup on your lash extensions.
Can I wear mascara?
You won’t have to. You can roll out of bed looking great, and best of all you will look like you are wearing mascara 24/7 without the clumping, streaking and smudging! If desired, you can wear mascara on the lower lashes, but ensure that you remove it with an oil-free makeup remover.
How long do they last?
Anywhere between 2-4 weeks, if you respect your new lashes and take care of them. A natural lash's growth cycle is around 25-28 days, and as it grows and falls out, so will the extension that is attached. Your lifestyle and occupation will also make a difference to how long they last.
Eg. Someone that is working in the food industry where there is a lot of heat, steam and oil may not last as long as someone who works in an air conditioned office.
I had lash extensions applied a few days ago and a few lashes have fallen out - why?
As explained above, the lashes have a growth cycle and unfortunately it is hard to determine which lash is ready to fall out. Each day we can lose 3-5 natural lashes, but often they fall out unnoticed unless they fall into your eye. When lash extensions are applied we are more aware of when they shed. If you sleep on your stomach with your face squashed into the pillow or you favour sleeping on one side you may notice the lashes may not last as well as the other side.
What are refills, why do I need them and how often do I need them?
You will require refills every 2-3 weeks if you would like to achieve a consistently full, fresh set of lashes. At Allure Lash and Beauty Bar, we take the time to remove any lash extensions that have either grown out too far or are not sitting correctly. Please note that we do not stack the lash extensions on top of the old ones, as other operators may do. For refill appointments, allow approximately 1 hour.
Do lashes come in different lengths and thickness?
Yes. Allure Lash and Beauty Bar specialises in lash extensions, so we carry a large range of lashes. Lengths available are 7mm - 13mm, in black and coloured lashes. We also stock five different curl types and four different thicknesses. During the application, a range of lengths and thicknesses are used - unlike other lash extension operators who only stock three lengths and one type of curl, we understand that not one size fits all. We will look at your eye and face shape, and tailor a look to suit you. If you have a specific request or look that you are wanting, please discuss this with us on the day of your appointment.
What are lash extensions made from?
At Allure Lash and Beauty Bar, we choose to use faux mink and silk lashes. Faux mink lashes are lightweight, hold their curl and are a slightly more porous fibre, so they adhere to the natural lash very well and last the longest. We do not use real mink lashes, they are a natural fibre, therefore do not hold their curl, and we are against animal cruelty - including the use of fur products.
Are the lash extensions glued to my skin?
No, they are adhered approximately 0.5mm from the eyelid.
Is the eyelash glue and glue remover safe? What are the chances of an allergic reaction?
Yes, when having your extensions applied by someone who has been correctly trained, it is safe. We specialise in lash extensions and take great care to ensure that the adhesive and adhesive remover does not come into contact with the skin or eyes. Like all cosmetic products, there are some individuals who may be allergic. Allergic reactions are extremely rare however, and subside normally as soon as the extensions are removed. If you have extreme latex/band-aid allergies, you may be at higher risk of a reaction. If you have had an allergic reaction to any lash extensions before, we do not recommend getting lash extensions again. If you do have an allergic reaction, you must seek medical attention and we will need to remove the extensions as soon as possible.
Are lash extensions suitable for everyone?
Anyone of any age can have eyelash extensions applied as long as there is a natural lash to glue the extension to! Ladies who have undergone chemotherapy and their lashes are starting to grow back also love eyelash extensions. Lash extensions are so natural, anyone could be wearing them and you wouldn't know. They are also suitable for people who wear contact lenses and glasses, however you may find it more comfortable to remove contacts before your appointment, or bring your contacts case so you can remove them immediately prior.
Is there any reason why I can't have lash extensions applied?
It is suggested that if you are an "eye rubber" due to allergies such as hayfever, or if rubbing your eyes is just a habit, or if you have experienced sensitivity around the eye area after using skin care or makeup, lash extensions may not suit you.
If you use prescribed medicated eye drops or ointment, this may coat the lashes and cause them to clump. If you are unsure please contact the salon to discuss.
Can lash extensions be removed?
Yes, at any time, for any reason they can be removed however there will be a removal charge. They are easily removed using a glue remover that is safe and will cause no harm to your natural lashes.
I had my lashes applied somewhere else and I don't like them / they are causing irriatation / they are not what I asked for. Can you fix them?
Allure Lash and Beauty Bar is always happy to remove lashes that have been applied elsewhere, and re-apply a new set. We do not refill work from other salons / technicians.
What are "Volume lash extensions / 2- 6D lash extensions"?
Volume lashes are super fine and lightweight silk or mink eyelash extensions, where 2, 3, 4, 5 or even 6 extensions are applied to each natural lash, creating intense volume with a soft, fluffy look. Because the fibres used are so light, they bond very well and last longer than classic eyelash extensions. Anywhere between 250-600 lashes are applied to each eye, depending on the amount of volume desired.
